What Are Sundays Like?
Whether you are new to church or just new to our church, you’re probably wondering what Sunday worship looks like at River Community Church. As we seek to glorify God and make disciples, you can always expect to find worship at River defined by Biblical Preaching, Meaningful Worship, and the Equipping of Disciples.
Biblical Preaching
We are committed to “expository” or “expositional” preaching through books of the Bible. In our sermons you’ll not only find out what the text of Scripture means, but you will also learn how that passage applies to you and our modern world. It is our goal that those who join us for worship each week will walk away with a greater understanding of Scripture and what it means for how we go about our daily lives, challenging us to grow in the Lord. You will hear sin confronted, Christ exalted, and obedience encouraged.
Meaningful WOrship
Each week we gather with the aim of glorifying and enjoying God with reverence and joy. We are not pursuing a purely emotional response in our worship services, but instead strive for meaningful worship that is shaped, informed, filled, and directed by God’s Word.
As an intentional and unashamedly Reformed congregation, our Sunday services follow a consistent and regular rhythm of worship in which the Bible is read, preached, sung, prayed, and seen. This however does not mean that our services are stale and old. The “liturgy” varies week-to-week with a certain organic liveliness that flows from God’s written Word. Likewise, worship is for all of life, and God calls us to bring our good, our bad, and our ugly to Him as we worship. No emotion or struggle is off-limits.
Equipping Disciples
Christian worship involves more than what we do on Sunday mornings. It involves all aspects of our lives, our activities, and our service to God throughout the course of the week. At River, you can expect to be a part of a church that will challenge you in your discipleship and service to God in all areas of life. Additionally, just as Sundays are not the limit of Christian worship, our Pastor & ministry staff are not the sum total of our church’s ministry. We want to equip you to fulfill the ministry that God is calling you to accomplish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does River Community Church believe?
As a reformed congregation in the Presbyterian tradition we hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith as our statement of faith. You can find the full text the Westminster Confession of Faith by clicking here.
Can I participate in worship without being a member?
Yes, anyone is welcome to join us for worship each Sunday at 10:30am.
Can I participate in the Lord’s Supper/Communion without being a church member?
At River we celebrate the Lord’s Supper weekly. Any individual who has credibly professed their faith and trusts in Jesus Christ is welcome to participate in the Lord’s table. You do not have to be a member of this church. We ask though that infants, young children, and those who have not yet expressed their faith in Christ do not take part in communion. We instead encourage you to wait, think, and pray before participating. If you have any questions about what it looks like to trust in Jesus, please speak with one of our Elders.
Are children welcome in worship? Is there childcare available?
ABSOLUTELY! On Sundays at River we encourage families to worship together. Yes, kids can be noisy, but Jesus himself was okay with the little children coming to Him (Luke 18:16), so we’re okay with a bit of noise in the service.
Childcare is available during the 10:30am worship service for ages 5 & under. However, we do encourage children 3-5 years old to participate in the worship service up until the sermon. Childcare is also available during the Sunday school hour (9:15am-10:15am).
What should I wear on Sunday?
On Sunday mornings you will find people within our church dressed as formally as suits and ties or dresses or as casual as wearing jeans and a t-shirt. In the colder months, our Pastor preaches in a coat and tie, but in summer he preaches in slacks and a button up. Wear whatever you’re comfortable with.
